My father was a keen photographer, had a darkroom and developed his own prints. Because I shared in his interest, I grew up learning these skills. I captured and developed photographs from an early age. With the advent of the digital darkroom I realized just how far I could push the boundaries of working with images. That prompted me to study graphic design and I added those skills to what I had already learnt about post processing film.
When my corporate job got downsized, I decided to start a new career doing something I really enjoyed. Photography was the obvious choice…

My creative process starts with researching the patents on iconic inventions. I then track down the actual invention to photograph it. Most of the time this involves buying the items at an auction and doing a photo-shoot in my studio. Other times I visit museums or collectors to photograph the inventions. To complete the collage I then create contextual backgrounds by blending different images and textures together to create an attractive and meaningful backdrop for the photograph, patent drawings and text.
As legal language and the draftsman’s pen are juxtaposed with a photographic image of the actual invention, the viewer is left with a glimpse of how a dream became a reality.

"I was struck by the variety of prints offered. It is such a unique idea to turn patents into artwork and provided a rich opportunity for different subject matters which was perfect for my wife and I who have a range of different interests. We picked out a few different pieces, and I was inspired enough by the high quality of the prints that I worked with John on a custom design that was delivered with an equal level of quality and professionalism.”

"I am very happy with my purchase of a Taylor Patent Artwork from John. I had a short timeframe and appealed to John for help in acquiring the print before a friend’s Birthday who was building his own guitar. I had an idea of making a curved frame from Wine Staves since my friend is also a Wine enthusiast. John ensured I received the print on time and the quality met all expectations. I highly recommend this company if excellent customer service combined with high quality is what you are looking for. Attached is a pic of the finished product."
